Sensory Systems: A Human Condition
120 Minutes
This course begins with discussing neurodiversity and what it means to be neurodivergent or neurotypical. Participants will learn about the eight sensory systems and how we process our environment whether we are neurodivergent or neurotypical. By understanding our sensory systems, we can then understand regulatory behaviors that we see in kids and adults. This course is an excellent introduction to neurodiversity and understanding regulatory behavior.  This course also touches on the barriers that are presented in accessing gainful employment, support services, and other.

Best Practices: Hiring and Supporting Neurodiversity

This course covers everything in Sensory Systems: A Human Condition in the first half. We then look at the best practices when hiring and supporting neurodiversity in the workplace. From training, communication, accommodations, policies, your organization can further your work in Diversity Equity and Inclusion.

Increase Productivity - Sensory Supportive Workplace
Requirement: Sensory Systems: A Human Condition
90 minutes
With an understanding of our eight sensory systems, we can begin to build work environments that are supportive to all. You can turn a private office or large business into a sensory supportive space. By providing a sensory supportive work environment, productivity increases, fatigue and headaches decrease, along with a decrease in burnout. Participants will begin to observe their spaces and be able to make simple changes to support their employees. Often employers see sick calls decrease and productivity increase. The bonus is a positive elevation in workplace culture.

Katie McMurray, M.Ed., CDMS

Katie is the founder and chief executive officer of Sensory Tool House, LLC.
As a neurodivergent person, business owner, vocational counselor, and caregiver of those who have neuro-differences, Katie understands the barriers in our communities that lead to greater unemployment in the neurodivergent population.
 
Katie knows the value that neurodiversity brings to businesses. By employing and supporting a neurodiverse work force, employee retention, productivity, and other business metrics can increase up to 90%.

Katie has witnessed the success neurodiversity brings to a business. 
 
From Katie’s work as a schoolteacher to her work as a certified disability management specialist, she has what it takes to understand the impact sensory processing, trauma and ACES has in the workforce. With her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling, she focused on sensory processing disorder and has continued her passion to learn and further support the neurodivergent community.

Lauren Howard

Lauren holds a BS in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior from UC Davis. She is neurodivergent and the parent to three neurodivergent children. Lauren is an expert in resources, behavior, and accommodations. She is engaging and is creative in her views on accommodations in the workforces as not only a neurodivergent person herself, but also a supervisor. She has been an integral part of developing policy, procedures, and culture for the success of all employees at STH.
